For Community

In order to have a vibrant and worthwhile community to live in, we need to make a concerted effort to build the community beforehand. We have to make choices now that will make our community an inclusive, sustainable and walkable neighborhood, or a series of segregated communities with no interaction and nothing that would be worthwhile to stick around for.
- Focus on community creation. By planning around community, ensuring that there are community services and commercial space interspersed within our residential areas, and creating places for people to congregate, such as community centers and affordable sporting facilities, we can create a community that is both affordable and worthwhile living in.
- Develop Transit on Campus. By increasing service on campus, by making it easier not only for people to come to campus, but for people to get around out on our peninsula, we can create a community that is fluid and not at all car dependant. It should not only be possible, but easy for everyone who lives here to live a carless life.
- Build a healthy relationship between campus groups. Our community can never thrive in the current atmosphere, an atmosphere that is characterized by mistrust between the UEL, UNA, AMS and the student community, the RCMP and the UBC Admin. By bringing these groups together, we can create a better community for all of us.
- Create a Community Charter. While governance reform is needed, we cannot wait to address our community problems. By creating a document that can help guide our interaction, we can have a better understanding of what our rights and responsibilities are.
- Integrate the Farm. The Farm can be integrated into our community and our supply chain to both live healthier and provide a continuous source of revenue to the farm that will be able to help offset the costs of the operation.
