About
Matthew Naylor is someone who will work in a dedicated and consistent manner to get work done for the citizens of Electoral Area A. He has lived in the Electoral Area since 2005, and has come to deeply love his area and the people that make up this great community. In addition to his own personal roots in the area, Matthew’s family has been involved in the UBC and Greater Vancouver community since the early 1970s.
Matthew was born and grew up in Calgary, Alberta. After graduating in 2005, he moved to Electoral Area A to pursue a bachelor’s degree. He is currently enrolled in the Faculty of Arts, through which he sits on the Arts Undergraduate Society.
Matthew has significant experience in governance and involvement with legislative bodies, and will be able to work with a powerful voice for his district. He has served on the board of the Alma Mater Society (AMS), the student society of UBC Vancouver since early 2006, including a year as the Vice President External Affairs. The VP External is the chief representative of UBC students to the different levels of government, coordinates the U-Pass, liaises with Translink and works with the University external affairs office.
During his time in External Affairs, and during his local activism in federal and provincial politics, Matthew has built connections that his is ready and eager to leverage in order to confront the problems of governance, providing services, and building a community in Electoral Area A. He is broad in scope, and will address the problems confronting the Islands and other communities around the district.
Matthew plans to live in the area for the next several years, and, if elected, working to build a community and correct the problems that are faced by the Electoral Area.
